Do you remember when you were young, and your mom would dress you in an undershirt, then a t-shirt, then a sweater, maybe a scarf and finally a jacket? Do you still layer in the winter? As adults, people have the freedom to layer however they want, unlike how mom would have wanted. Sometimes people will don an undershirt, a button up blouse, and then a sweater, like we can see here worn by Reese Witherspoon (although the undershirt is questionable).
Consider yourself a canvas, ready and willing to accept paint stroke, after paint splash. Not only does it open up the garden of your mind and allow creative ways to play with your wardrobe, but it is also practical! Consider unpredictable weather (hard to relate for us Los Angelino’s, but hey, we’re compassionate). Imagine leaving home with nothing but a tank, and 2 hours later you find yourself freezing and keeling over on a street corner wishing you had brought that cardigan. Or wearing that perfect fall sweater, and then dying of heat stroke because *gasp*, you’ve got no under layer on to allow for fabric shedding.
Layering is also a great way to combat that indecisiveness. Picture this…you just stepped out of the shower, your hot date is 10 minutes early, and you just can’t decide between that hip hugging sweater dress, or the peplum top and jeans. Grab ‘em both (well not the jeans, unless you’re really daring), and layer that pep over that dress.
So next time you are pondering the contents of your closet, just grab it all and go. Have a great weekend!
